Vertiv Supports Namibia Oil and Gas Conference 2023 as Gold Sponsor

Windhoek, Namibia [August 15, 2023] – Vertiv (NYSE: VRT), a global provider of critical digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, is placing strategic focus on the local mining industry, joining the upcoming Namibia Oil and Gas Conference as a Gold Sponsor. Vertiv experts at the event will be supported by preferred local partner, Swakop Electrical Supplies.

The event, which will be held at the Mercure Hotel in Windhoek from 16 to 17 August 2023, is hosted by the Economic Association of Namibia, the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) and the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF), with the strategic partnership of the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR), under the official endorsement of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Republic of Namibia.

In order to remain competitive, oil and gas companies worldwide are leveraging technology and digitalisation to transform their operations, improve the reliability and availability of their assets, and also reduce both costs and carbon emissions. This is according to a recent article by global management consulting firm McKinsey & Company entitled ‘Harnessing volatility: Technology transformation in oil and gas’.

McKinsey outlines how an effective technology infrastructure can help support strategic business objectives, stating however that the infrastructure of many oil and gas companies is complex and fragmented, with a mix of both modern and legacy IT and OT systems, and difficult-to-access business-critical data distributed across those systems. These are shaky foundations for a digital transformation, the article states, which is why successful organisations must support their frontline digital initiatives with a comprehensive overhaul of their underlying infrastructure.

“Oil and gas companies are generating large volumes of data from day-to-day operations that could be used to derive insight for enhancing operational efficiencies, increasing performance, and improving decision-making,” says Gary Chomse, strategic segments director - Africa at Vertiv. “This underscores the importance of a rugged and robust, yet high-performance data centre, which would form the backbone for this critical data.”

“As an organisation, Vertiv has a strong track record in assisting oil and gas organisations at a global level, and we are looking to gain traction within this sector in Africa also. The Namibia Oil and Gas Conference is an excellent platform for us to create greater awareness around the benefits that Vertiv can bring to this arena, and we look forward to engaging and networking with conference delegates,” says Chomse.

Vertiv experts will be on hand to discuss the organisation’s Commercial and Industrial solutions offerings, including:

  • Critical power products, such as efficient, reliable uninterruptible power supplies (UPS); scalable, flexible hybrid DC power products; power distribution systems; switchgear; and the Vertiv™ Powerbar patented range of busbar trunking;
  • Thermal management solutions, including Vertiv™ air handling and chillers for climate control of large electronic systems located outside the data room; cooling solutions for data centres, IT rooms, laboratories, and other critical applications; as well as small thermal systems, incorporating room, and row/ rack cooling;
